Jennifer Lawrence: Take A Number

It's been a while since my last Hollywood Profile and I figured since the Oscars are right around the corner, why not stir up the buzz with Hollywood's upcoming leading lady. What more there to say about Jennifer Lawrence other than at the ripe age of 20 she is taking Hollywood by storm. Not only has the young actress starred in movies such as The Burning PlainThe Beaver as well as Winter's Bone, but she will also be playing the mutant Mystique in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming, X-Men: First Class movie, which could lead to a potential franchise of films for the young starlet. If that still doesn't impress you then maybe the fact that she was nominated for the Golden Globe for best actress in Winter's Bone will. Wait did I say Golden Globe? How about an Oscar?, because just yesterday it was announced that Lawrence will find herself in a category with actresses like Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Annette Benning and Michelle Williams for Best Actress in a Leading Role. For a 20 year born on August 15, 1990 in Lousville, Kentucky, that is some company. I'm not going to sit here and give you a biography of this young actress but just a heads up that Lawrence has what it takes to become an A List actress in the near future, as being nominated for an Oscar at this age speaks volumes about this amazing girls talents. Look for this girl to be snagged up by Director's across the globe as she will surely become a household name at the box office in the near future. Take a number Hollywood, because Jennifer Lawrence is going to be a busy girl after the Oscars.

Tom Hardy: Living The Dream

You probably never heard of Tom Hardy before, that is until after his breakthrough role in this year's Inception. Born Edward Thomas Hardy in Hammersmith, London, son to an artist and comedy writer, the actor was born into talent at a young age. He attended Richmond Drama School in London, and started his career landing roles in war dramas. Hardy entered the Hollywood scene in the year 2001, nabbing roles in big productions such as Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down and Steven Spielberg's, Band Of Brothersseries (alongside another up and coming actor Michael Fassbender). Since then, the 32 year old actor hasn't stopped, picking up role after role in some good films. He appeared in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis (gaining heavy international exposure), and then graduated to bigger roles such as Clarkie in Matthew Vaughn's Layer Cake, and of course Handsome Bob in RocknRolla. The actor then received praise for his work portraying prisoner Charles Bronson and his 34 year captivity in a British prison, in Nicolas Winding Refn's drama entitled, Bronson. From there the actor finally got the recognition he deserved, and landed the role of a lifetime in Nolan's Sci-Fi thriller,Inception. Following in the footsteps of such actors like Gerard Butler (300), Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds), and even fellow co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days Of Summer), Hardy is slowly climbing his way up to star status in Hollywood. The actor is tied to lead roles in upcoming movies such as Warrior, Mad Max: Furry Road (2012), and was just named Sam Worthington's replacement for This Means War (2012) opposite Chris Pine (Star Trek). Although this man played The Forger in Nolan's world of dreams, the reality is the actor is literally living the dream world we all envy. For a man who battled alcoholism and crack addition in his mid-twenty's, the actor has come full circle in a big way. Look for Hardy next in Gavin O'Connor's Warrior, November 26, 2010.

Chloe Grace Moretz: The Young Gun

Chloe Moretz, only 11 years old, is taking Hollywood by storm. The young actress, born in Atlanta, Georgia, and daughter to a plastic surgeon and nurse, started acting when her second eldest brother (Trevor Duke Moretz) was accepted into a performing arts school in New York (her brother serves as her teacher and travels with her on films). Since then, Moretz has starred in major movies such as The Amityville Horror, Big Momma's House 2, BOLT, (500) Days Of Summer, and her most recent and amazing performance in 2010's Kick-Ass. After portraying the character Hit-Girl in Matthew Vaughn's adaption of the graphic novel Kick-AssMoretz has received widespread recognition from fans all over the globe. The actress is currently working on a number of films set to release in the next two years, including Elizabeth Banks' upcoming untitled comedyas well as Let Me In, The Fields, The Invention Of Hugo Cabaret, and will also reprise her role as Hit-Girl in Vaughn's sequel Kick Ass: Balls To The Wall due in 2012. For a young adolescent, it is truly amazing what this little girl has accomplished, as she is already on track to becoming a major Hollywood star at the ripe age of 11. Fans can catch Chloe next in Matt Reeves drama/fantasy movie Let Me In,coming this fall.

Jay Baruchel: In The Spotlight

Born Jonathan Adam Sanders "Jay" Baruchel in Ottawa, Ontario (1982), and the son of a Jewish father and Roman Catholic mother, this Canadian always wanted to be an actor. Since childhood, he loved scary movies and dreamed of starring in one, so his mother (being the good mother she is) signed him up for acting classes. From there, Jay's journey to stardom would begin. With his humble beginnings as part of the 1990 TV show Are You Afraid Of The Dark? and starring alongside fellow Canadian Elisha Cuthbert in Popular Mechanics For Kids, the actor has certainly come a long way. Jay made his Hollywood debut with a small part in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, later followed by a role in Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. Since then, he has gradually begun to star in multiple movies including, Knocked Up, Fanboys, Tropic Thunder, The Trotsky, She's Out Of My League, and most recently, the animated film How To Train Your Dragon. For Jay, there are nothing but good times ahead; he is already tied to a number of productions, including Jerry Bruckheimer's The Sorcerers Apprentice. While the actor's roles usually pin him as a nerdy, smart, and insecure character, in his upcoming film Notre Dame de Grace (currently being filmed in Montreal), Baruchel will play a more serious role in the crime film. The 28-year-old actor is rapidly climbing his way up to A-list status, and I look forward to seeing his repertoire of roles.

Michael Fassbender: Under The Radar

You probably know him as Lt. Archie Hicox from Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds (which he was amazing in), but Michael Fassbender has excelled in several other roles in the past three years that warrant attention. He made his hollywood debut in 2006's adaption of the Frank Miller's graphic novel 300, playing a fearless Spartan soldier 'Stelios' alongside co-star Gerard Butler. In 2008, Fassbender was cast in Steve Mcqueen's directorial debut Hunger where he depicted Bobby Sands, an IRA hunger striker imprisoned during the 1981 hunger strike in Northern Ireland. The actor took his method acting skills to the extreme by losing 33 pounds in 10 days (dropping from 166lbs to 125lbs) while on a medically monitored diet consisting of nuts, berries, and sardines.  Although Fassbender is virtually unknown to the general public, at age 33, his upcoming roles in major hollywood movies such as David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method , Steven Soderbergh's Knockout and his latest film completed to date, Jonah Hex, should have people taking note of this rising star. Fassenbender will portray Carl Jung in Cronenberg's latest film opposite Vigo Mortensen's character (Sigmund Freud) in their discovery of physcoanalysis. In Jonah Hex, out in theatres June 18, 2010, Fassbender plays the villainous role of 'Burke' acting alongside big names such as Josh Brolin, John Malcovich, Will Arnett and starlet Megan Fox. With his brilliant acting skills and charming presence on screen, expect Fassbender to become a household name at this year's box office.
